Der Name Raja Ampat<\/b> bedeutet \u00fcbersetzt ins Deutsche<\/b> \u201cvier K\u00f6nige\u201d. Er entstammt der lokalen Mythologie \u00fcber vier K\u00f6nige, die die vier gr\u00f6\u00dften Inseln in Raja Ampat<\/b> formten, n\u00e4mlich \u00a0Salawati, Batanta, Waigeo und Misool. Die vier K\u00f6nige sollen der Mythologie nach aus vier von sieben Eiern geschl\u00fcpft sein, die\u00a0 eine Frau gefunden haben soll. Aus den drei anderen seien ein Gespenst, eine Frau und ein Stein geschl\u00fcpft.<\/p>\n

Raja Ampat ist ein Teil der neu benannten Provinz West Papua<\/b> von Indonesien, die fr\u00fcher als Irian Jaya bekannt war. Raja Ampat ist eine neue Regentschaft, die von Sorong im Jahr 2004 getrennt wurde.
\nDie Provinz Raja Ampat umfasst mehr als 40.000 km\u00b2 Land und Meer. Zusammen mit der Cenderawasih Bay bildet Raja Ampat den gr\u00f6\u00dften Marine-Nationalpark in Indonesien, eine atemberaubende Inselkette aus \u00fcber 1.500 kleinen Inseln, Heimat Tausender Arten, von denen einige endemisch sind.<\/p>\n

Fr\u00fchere Inschriften zeigen, dass Raja Ampat einst ein Teil des Tidore- K\u00f6nigreiches war, das gro\u00dfen Einfluss in der Maluku Regionhatte. Doch nach der niederl\u00e4ndischen Invasion wurde Raja Ampat von den Holl\u00e4ndern besetzt.
\nDie Hauptbesch\u00e4ftigung der Menschen in dieser Region ist die Fischerei. Sie leben verstreut auf den Inseln in kleinen D\u00f6rfern und sind stammesm\u00e4\u00dfig organisiert.
