Is Indonesia Opening for International Travel?

  • October 15, 2021

Since late March 2020 Indonesia has been restricting travel from other countries due to the COVID pandemic. It has been a challenging time for all who depend on the tourism industry. It’s also tough for our beloved Papua Explorers and Coralia Liveaboard guests. We know you are eager to visit and dive with us, and we have been missing you dearly! Many times, we have been asked if and when Indonesia is opening for international travel. Now we finally see a light at the end of the tunnel!

Bali Re-Opening

As first milestone, Bali has now opened its airport again for international flights from certain countries. Also, the quarantine time was dropped from 8 days to 5 days. We think that is a great start and it gives us hope that in the coming weeks further progress is going to happen and traveling will become even easier. We also appreciate that the government is careful in their approach and takes it step by step to ensure everyone stays safe and healthy.

Further Progress in Indonesia

In the past months the government has been running an intensive vaccination campaign for its population. Our teams of Papua Explorers and Coralia are fully vaccinated since May 2021. Only vaccinated people are allowed on planes, ferries, and buses in Indonesia.

Raja Ampat is also one of the priority tourism destinations for the reopening. The government has been inspecting and certifying resorts, hotels and liveaboards under the CHSE (Cleanliness, Health, Safety & Environmental sustainability) protocol. We have received a pass score of 100% both with Papua Explorers and Coralia Liveaboard just recently. So these are all very good signs for progress.

Hope for the Future

Further, we see that other countries around us are carefully opening up, or preparing to do so. Some examples are Thailand, Vietnam, and even Australia. We are happy and positive, as we see the world is moving in the right direction. Based on all this we hope it won’t be long now before Indonesia is officially opening for international travel, and you can visit us again.

We would like to thank you, our guests, for your patience and loyalty. Especially those of you, who have been so patient and rescheduled your trips to new dates. Hang in there and rest assured there are people on the other side of the world who are just as eager to welcome you back, as you are to visit us.

We send you lots of love in the meantime!

In case you haven’t visited yet, but would like to do so, we’d be very happy to hear from you – please contact us here, or learn more about Raja Ampat here, and our team here.
